Board Brief: February 9, 2017

The USEA Executive Board held its winter meeting on February 9, 2017, via teleconference. The agenda was primarily focused on a discussion of revising the USEA Strategic Plan to reflect the changing needs of the association. Board members began the discussion by reviewing the results of a survey that was administered to members regarding the services and priorities on which the Board should focus for the next three to five years. The board will discuss specific recommendations for changes at the May board meeting and make formal decisions at that time. All USEA members are invited to this meeting to hear the discussion.

Several USEA committees gave updates on their work at the board meeting. The awards committee will accept nominations for 5 awards through March 24. Winners will be selected by the committee and honored at dinner during the UTeach Conference in May. The publications committee also gave an update on their work, which has been focused on releasing the first USEA newsletter this month.

Other administrative items that were discussed at the meeting included a review of expenditures for 2016–2017 and the process for filling vacancies on the leadership development committee.

Finally, Kim Hughes, director of the UTeach Institute, provided the board members with an update on the activities that are taking place to celebrate the 20th anniversary of UTeach such as Notes from UTeach Nation and events at the UTeach Conference.

The next executive board meeting will be held at the conclusion of the UTeach Conference in Austin, Texas, on May 25, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at the AT&T Conference Center. All USEA members are invited to attend.
